“I thought I could just hop on a plane and sing my way into stardom… turns out the runway to your dreams is paved in broken promises.”
– Talwyn
The second full-length album from rising indie artist Talwyn is here. Anywhere But Here is more than a collection of songs—it’s a diary in flames, a brutally honest retelling of Talwyn’s journey from the green hills of Ireland to the bright, harsh lights of Los Angeles, and finally to a stage in Texas she now calls home.
When I first met Talwyn, she was carrying a guitar, a bruised heart, and a voice soaked in soul. We met by accident (or fate) backstage after a Ghost Riff Riders show in the hills outside Austin. She wasn’t supposed to perform. But she did. And people who had already left the venue turned around to come back inside.
What followed was an impromptu mini-concert that reignited the night. One song turned into five. The Riders and I knew instantly—this woman had something real. Something rare.
🎶 A Record of Love, Loss, and Leaving
Anywhere But Here tells her story like pages from a weather-worn journal.
-
From the wide-eyed girl landing in LA chasing stars like Adele and Lana Del Rey…
-
To falling for a producer who used charm like currency, only to ghost her when she didn’t go viral overnight…
-
To crummy gigs in smoky clubs where she was told what to wear and how to smile…
Talwyn says it best herself:
“They dressed me up like a doll and played me like background noise. I had to leave before I disappeared into someone else’s version of me.”
She hit the road, took a Greyhound through the underground music scenes of America, and sang herself back to life. By the time she stumbled into Austin, she’d already written most of this album—scratched in motel rooms, whispered in bathroom stalls, wept into subway tunnels.
💚 Irish Roots, Global Soul
Like her debut, Anywhere But Here blends dark alt-pop, indie folk, and protest soul. But this album digs deeper. It’s rougher, rawer, and a little more fearless.
As always, Talwyn saves the last few songs for what she calls her “homework for the homeland.”
“I worry about what’s happening in Ireland. I see it happening all over Europe—identity erased, values diluted, history rewritten. We’re being told to forget who we are. I won’t.”
